Summer vacation, Day 35 – Nyári vakáció, 35. nap

I like to think about what happened on a certain day in earlier years.

For example, on this day in 2016, we were in Komárno, Slovakia, at the reunion of my college folk dance group Nyitnikék. There, even Steve tried to learn a Hungarian dance.

In 2017, we were with friends at the Pacific Ocean and the Hoh Rain Forest in Olympic National Park, WA.

In 2018, we were flying from Maasai Mara, in Kenya, to Serengeti National Park, in Tanzania, where we went on an afternoon safari.

And there were the years when on this day we found ourselves in Slovakia, in our village Pozba or in nearby villages or towns, relaxing, gardening, or being with family and friends.

Today was one of those days. We visited with one of my cousins twice removed who is the mayor of an 800-year-old village of 5300 people, Tardoskedd (Tvrdošovce). https://www.tvrdosovce.sk/english We talked about many things (small and big) and to our surprise he gifted us with some of their publications including a book describing the village life then and now, and a cookbook with traditional local recipes. I’m sure I will try many of them in the future. Thank you, Marián (Mr. Mayor), for the lovely visit.
