Do you want the most breathtaking view of Seattle?  Go to Kerry Park on top of Queen Anne Hill.  It’s popular both for visitors and residents in any season, but especially on sunny days.

It’s a small park located on Highland Drive, from where you can take your postcard-perfect photo with Mt. Rainier visible on the right.  This past Saturday – when Steve and I took a leisurely walk in the surrounding area and enjoyed the views of the city from the park together with many tourists – the Mountain wasn’t visible, but trust me, it was there.  We saw ferries crossing Elliott Bay, the stunning city skyline, and the iconic Space Needle.  We’ve visited this park in the past a few times – even on New Year’s Eve when it’s popular for watching the fireworks around Space Needle.  On this day, the weather was cooperating and the views were incredible!

At the center of the park is a sculpture called “Changing Form” by Doris Totten Chase, installed in 1971.  It’s popular by tourists as a framing for photos or even as a play area.  According to Wikipedia, the land of the park was donated to the city of Seattle by Albert S. Kerry and his wife in 1927.  Since then, we all can enjoy the beautiful view of the city from here.

A Kerry parkot a Highland Drive-on találjuk.  Innen készíthetünk csodás fotókat a városról, a Mt. Rainier heggyel a kép jobb oldalán.  Múlt szombaton, amikor Steve és én egy kellemes kis sétát tettünk a környéken, élvezvén a csodás kilátást a sok turistával egyetemben, a hegy sajnos nem látszott, de hidd el, ott volt a valóságban.  Láttuk viszont a komphajókat az Elliott Bay öbölben, a lenyűgöző városképet és az ikonikus Space Needle-t.  Mi Steve-vel voltunk mát itt jónéhányszor – szilveszterkor is, amikor sokezren nézik innen a Space Needle körüli tüzijátékot.  Ezen a szombat délutánon az időjárás igazán kedvezett, s a kilátás teljesen lenyűgözött!

A park közepén 1971 óta egy szobor áll – Doris Totten Chase munkája –, amelynek “Változó formák” a neve.  A turisták forókeretként használják vagy éppen játszanak körülötte.  A Wikipedia szerint a park füldterületét Albert S. Kerry és felesége adományozta a városnak 1927-ben.  Azóta élvezhetjük innen mindannyian a gyönyörű kilátást.
