How to deal with the gray January skies in Seattle? Explore the beautiful Arboretum where the striking colors of the winter blooming shrubs and trees will put you in a good mood.
The Washington Park Arboretum on the shores of Lake Washington offers peaceful and refreshing walks on its many well-maintained trails. Today, Steve and I started our walk at the visitors’ center and headed to the Joseph A. Witt Winter Garden.
We enjoyed the colors and fragrances of the plants in the numerous beds surrounding the green lawn. It was a feast for our senses: the yellow of the witch hazel, the pastels of the many hellebores, the pink of an occasional camellia, the orange of the willows, the red of the berries.
We could hear some birds that come for the seeds and fruits. We then strolled through other areas of the Arboretum marveling at the interesting structure of the trees and even noticing an early azalea.

Elsőként a Joseph A. Witt-ről elnevezett téli kertbe mentünk, ahol a sokféle szín és sokféle illat mindkettőnket szinte elvarázsolt. A zöld gyep körüli ágyasokban volt sárgán virágzó boszorkánymogyoró (varázsdió), pasztellszínű hunyor, rózsaszínű kamélia, narancsszínű fűzfa, és vörösbogyós cserje is. Érzékeink szinte téli ünnepet ültek. Madárcsicsergést is hallottunk. Nekik itt a magvak és bogyók szolgálnak eleségül. Aztán az arborétum más részeit is bejártuk. Rácsodálkoztunk egy-egy érdekes alakzatú fára és egy koránt kivirágzott azéleát is láttunk.
