We made it to Perth, to the capital city of Western Australia! This city with its 2.3 million people (out of 2.8 million in Western Australia) is the fourth biggest in the country. Despite the large population, the city ranks highly on the global livability index.
Day 23, Saturday, September 28: Perth
We arrived in the afternoon after traveling by train from Sydney on the Indian Pacific. After being transferred via car to our hotel, the Pan Pacific Perth, and after settling in, we went for a short walk to discover the area close by the hotel.
We walked by the Swan River through a park and sensed how nature and city life coexist harmoniously in Perth.
We arrived in Elizabeth Quay where we wondered about the architecture of the Swan Bell Tower.
We walked through and admired the iconic pedestrian suspension bridge, which is 20-meters high. There were spectacular views both of the river and the city. No wonder, it’s a popular place for locals and tourists alike.
On our way back to the hotel, we stopped at a water park and enjoyed one of my favorites: murals.
We interacted with the 29 meter tall art piece called Spanda by walking through it. We learned that the form of the sculpture represents ripples or orbits from atoms, and links the Swan River, land, and sky.
Even though we spent five nights in Perth, we didn’t really have time to explore the city in depth, but the little we saw we liked very much. The city basically served as a base for our day trips around the region of Western Australia. Stay tuned for our next adventures.
