Stewarts Bay Lodge – Stewarts Bay-i házikó

After the flight above the Tasman Peninsula, our destination was Port Arthur, a 65-kilometer drive from the Cambridge Aerodrome. We reached it by 3:30 in the afternoon.

Day 8, Friday, September 13: Stewarts Bay

After two hotels (in Melbourne and Hobart) our accommodation for tonight was Stewarts Bay Lodge. A perfect holiday hotspot and weekend getaway to many Tasmanians. For us, it was a perfect location for visiting Port Arthur, since it could be reached from our cabin in a 20-minute walk.

Out of the 40 log cabins, we got the one-bedroom #15 cabin, the closest to the “On The Bay” restaurant. The cabins had no internet, but we got a little signal from the restaurant.

A porch opened from the cabin’s living room providing a nice view of Stewarts Bay on the Tasman Sea.

After getting some basic groceries from the general store, we went for a short walk along the coastal trail.

There was one problem with the cabin though. It was cold, and there was no heating in the bedroom and in the bathroom. It turned out, that the bed’s electric pad didn’t work on Steve’s side, so we had to take turns to warm ourselves up. We heard loud rain during the night and when we got up on Saturday morning, it turned out it wasn’t rain, it was hail.

After our breakfast, we were ready to walk in the 6 degrees Celsius (42 degrees Fahrenheit) weather to Australia’s most infamous historic site of Port Arthur. Good thing that we brought warm down jackets with us!
